Cameron must face reality, say Eurosceptics

Conservative leader David Cameron must match rhetoric to action if he is to have any chance of winning the confidence of voters in his ‘new’ policies on Europe, say Eurosceptics.

“Too many times we have heard opposition politicians talking the talk about ‘standing up’ for Britain in Europe,” said George West, Chairman of the cross-party Campaign for an Independent Britain. “Following hard on the heals of his climb-down over his ‘cast iron’ promise to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, Mr Cameron has much to do to persuade the British people that he in earnest about reducing the role of the EU in our national life.”

“The sort of ‘a la carte’ Europe that Mr Cameron now seems to favour runs entirely contrary to the whole thrust of ever deepening European integration over the past fifty years, and is explicitly ruled out by the Lisbon Treaty which Mr Cameron now says we are powerless to repeal.”

Campaign for an Independent Britain also notes that the Conservative leader’s call for a ‘Sovereignty Acr’ is a clear admission by Mr Cameron that Britain is no longer a free and independent nation.

“Sooner rather than later the fundamental question of Britain’s overall relationship with the European Union must be addressed,” said Mr West. “Supporters of the EU are already raising the spectre that Mr Cameron’s policies will lead to Britain leaving the EU altogether. Good. Such an outcome should not be feared. A Britain outside the European Union would be freed from the straitjacket of rules, taxes and regulations that have crippled our economic life and right to self-determination for a generation.”

Who is surprised by this. Cameron has an ideal opportunity to have a non binding vote in the UK about our future in the EU.

If the vote was against staying in the EU then he could go to the EU with a clear mandate from the people for change and his bargaining position would be enhanced no end and it would certainly sharpen minds in Europe.

We are dealing in a global market place now and Europe seems hell bent with its socialist policies of hamstrunging us all.

My wife (Who is French) used to work for the EU and we lived in Brussels (Not the best time of our lives), she saw at first hand the waste and corruption in the EU, she was not particularily anti EU until she spent 3 years there now she is more anti EU than i am.

All this rubbish spun about the UK not surviving outside the EU is more of the same myth that is spun by all the eurocrats.

I say lets have a vote and if it goes against the EU then leave, and let them have thier solialist federalist utopia and we can start running the UK for the benefit of the UK citizens not for the benefit of the EU.

There is a big debate now about MP's expenses in the UK, these pail into insignificance new to what an MEP gets on his EU gravytrain.

I'm hoping Dan Hannan will lead the way - I like his & Carswell's approach. I don't really think that Cameron is willing to leave the EU.

At the last election, the Conservatives, like Labour and the Liberal-Democrats, promised us a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. And in 2007, David Cameron wrote, “Today I will give this cast-iron guarantee: if I become PM a Conservative government will hold a referendum on any EU treaty that emerges from these negotiations.”
On 26 May 2009, Cameron said, “A progressive reform agenda demands that we redistribute power from the EU to Britain ... We will therefore hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, pass a law requiring a referendum to approve any further transfers of power to the EU, negotiate the return of powers, and require far more detailed scrutiny in Parliament of EU legislation, regulation and spending.” Now he says that there would be ‘full parliamentary control’ over the self-amending and ‘ratchet’ clauses in the Lisbon Treaty: this is what we call a lie.
~
Now Cameron has announced that the time for a referendum has passed, but pledges a referendum on any future treaty. On the back of breaking his promise to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, Cameron now promises to hold a referendum on any future treaty. Of course, we know that we can leave our sovereignty and independence safe in the hands of a politician’s promises!

We must first, assert and uphold the supremacy of the British Constitution.
Once we have in place a 'Party for the People'; and re-established our Monarchical Constitution;only then can we move forward with new priorities in particularly Education of ALL the People of their sovereign birthright and inculcate into everyone (through decent, honest schooling) exactly what is the British Constitution , its history and its fantastic power through the Royal Prerogative over Parliament (if rightly and justly executed by the crowned monarch). Thorough education of the British Crown and its tri-part 'checks and balances'. Thoroughly educate everyone that we the People are sovereign and never ever shall it be Parliament.
WE WILL NOT NEED A SOVEREIGNTY BILL if we uphold our real Constitution!
The British Parliament at this time is, undoubtedly, the enemy of the People.

Well, if as I read yesterday, Cameron wants to remove the British German Garrison for use elsewhere: that could a step in the right direction, even if a small one. I can already hear the gasps of astonishment from Howe, Heseltine, Clark and co. It may also free up some cash to properly equip the Armed Forces. There is no doubt that the culpability in failing to arm the Iraq and Afghan Forces lies squarely with Blair/Brown and the Socialists. How many lives have these posers and incompetents cost. The rebate Blair handed over in his efforts to jolly along his ascension to EU President would have paid for helicopters, body armour, better armoured vehicles and who knows what else.
